Feliz Año

Anonuevo
Feliz Año Nuevo, Let the Fireworks begin...and they did for more than 3 hours.  About 12 - 15 people came to ring in the new year in Buenos Aires with me.  From all over; Australia, New Zealand, England, U.S.A. and of course Argentina.  A low key group of people all wanting to enjoy New Years, but not alone.  Too much food, too much drink, new friends made.  A begining to a new year.

This was the 6th new year I have been in Buenos Aires and the most low key.  I have no idea why, but my craziest New Years was the one that kicked off the crisis in Argentina...the year 2001.  That year everything was open including the milongas.  Now with prosperity looming on every street corner, everything is closed.  Taxis impossible to find, buses on an erratic schedule.

The revelers found their way.  A free concert in front of the obelisk in 90 degree temperatures started the festivities.  How anyone could stand elbow to elbow under the hot sun is beyond me.

There seemed to be less people on the streets this year.  I noticed it during Christmas as well.  It seems that many people left Buenos Aires to celebrate.  Unlike the previous years when money was short, people stayed home for the holidays.  This year many went abroad to visit family.

This was a crazy year for me.  I learned a lot about myself, about people. Things were not always as they seemed.  I know in retrospect that I am a very lucky woman.  I have my health, my two legs.  I learned what it might be like to not have both.

I learned who my friends were.  Funny how the ones I always thought were my friends were the ones who could not find it in themselves to be there for me when I needed them most.  Then the surprises of who would be there for me when I least expected.

What are my new year's resolutions?  Did you really think I was going to tell you?  This girl must have some secrets!

Happy New Year!! :)

I'll be in Buenos Aires for a month starting Feb 21 - maybe I'll run into you at a milonga :) :)

Loved your party. Loved your dog. It was a perfect way to spend our second evening in Buenos Aires. We are here almost a week now. Feeling less incompetent everyday--well, not really.

Do you even need resolutions? With the way life is never what it seems, I am just going along for the ride...

Feliz Ano Nuevo!

Global Post

  • Global Post
When the foreign news correspondents announced that they were going to cut back a vaccum was left in the market. Out of this came GlobalPost.com partnering with Huffingtonpost.com to become the world's largest aggregator of news using the Internet. They set out to find 350 of the world's best blogs to assist in reporting the news. TangoSpam was chosen along with several others here in Argentina as one of those 350 blogs. TangoSpam will be highlighted daily on Globalpost and from time to time on Huffingtonpost. Who would have ever thought writing those letters at 12 years old for my mother to Blue Cross/Blue Shield would amount to this?

What the Press Writes...

  • TangoSpam makes the NYT!
What a surprise! I was the only blog mentioned in this article on Buenos Aires.
  • Así nos bloguean
No one was more shocked than me when a journalist from Clarin one of the two local newspapers in Buenos Aires wanted to interview me. Here is the article...in Español.
  • What the Washington Post has to say about Moving to Buenos Aires
I think I am going to puke if I read another article on how ex-pats come here because it is cheap. These articles chronicle how mostly americans come here and act like celebrities with new found wealth.
