Surprise! I am writing today. So many people have sent me emails to ask me to start writing again. I finally figured out the problem with my not writing so much anymore. Actually it is two fold. One is that I work more than full time now. The other is the evil Facebook. When ideas pop into my head, first I think about blogging, and then...I run to Facebook. Facebook the mother of all evils.
It just seems so easy to write a few lines and post them. You don't even have to think about what you are writing, you just do. In my case in both English and mas o menos Spanish. My students love to see my posts in Spanish. It probably makes them feel better about their English.
Now it is summer. I will have no excuse. Here in Buenos Aires everything comes to a halt. Almost no one works. Usually that is the end of my English classes. Although this year, I seem to have many requests for English. While I won't be working my usual 12 hour days, I will be working.
What I realized is, I need to write. One, because I love writing. I love the written word. Two, I need to write. Living in a Spanish speaking world is causing problems with my English. Although I teach English, sometimes when I look at my written English, it is Spanglish. I write "in" as "en". I mix up the two "their" and "there" among many other inexcusable gramatical errors.
It also helps me when I do translations. I find that sometimes (OK many times) I don't remember a word in English. I have to look it up in Spanish to get the English. How bizarre is that?
While I won't be writing my snarky posts on tango, I think you will still enjoy reading my blog. I plan to turn my snarkiness to "Life in Argentina." I might even take a stab at writing in Spanish.
