My birthday was on Saturday, May 24. When I lived in the U.S. I always would obsess over what I was going to do. If I didn't have a boyfriend or a husband, I was afraid I would be left to celebrate alone. I spent many birthdays in Europe, Mexico, or here.
Here in Buenos Aires birthdays are an event. My friends, especially Sandra have been planing for weeks. We celebrated for 4 days. I am really lucky to have the friends I have. I want to share 4 days of pictures with you.
FRIDAY MAY 23, Club Gricel
As soon as I got to Gricel, my friend Juan came rushing over to the table. He was with his friends Marcelo and another Juan. He had brought me a present and was excited to give it to me. It was a beautiful silver bracelet. This is him putting it on. I guess that was sort of mean to ask a guy to put on this bracelet in a dark club. Oh well.
He did it and I have not taken in off since. And no, he is not my boyfriend.
I am not sure if it was in honor of my birthday, but the electricity went out 40 minutes after we got to Gricel. We sat in the dark. It was amazing that no one left the club. People sat and chatted with each other. It was a night of 40s (Except for my birthday number.....) and the lights and music came back on 40 minutes later.
This is me with my absolute best friend from the U.S. Eva. We met 7 years ago here in Buenos Aires. She is yin to my yang. She sees the world as all rosey, romantic, and flowers. I see black. Well not exactly. But I am a skeptic by nature. We ground each other. That is what best friends are for. This was her 3rd birthday with me. She came from Texas to celebrate with me.
Sandra got this bright idea to crown me. She always calls us "Las Reinas de Las Noches". She told me she bought me a birthday crown. So of course I had to wear it.
Of course Sandra loved my crown so much she
decided that she had to try it on. I told her not to
worry. She will see it in January for her birthday.
Krassi is a friend of Eva's. She is originally from Bulgaria and now lives in New Orleans. She brought me Ivory soap for my birthday. I love Krass for this. There are just some things a girl cannot live without.
This is my friend Charles. (He is really a Carlos, but he loves being called Charles) He is sitting with Yuko. (North Carolina via Japan) Like all of us they are drinking some champagne.
Speaking of champagne (Called champoo here at times.)
here is me having a glass of champagne with Juan.
This is my friend Lilliana. She is sitting with Yuko. Maybe they are trading secrets on how to dance with the men.
Look at this! A regular United Nations sharing my birhtday! Krassi (Bulgaria - New Orleans) Charles (Argentina), Yuko (Japan, USA) (Look at all those champoo glasses!!)
This foto speaks for itself. The cake was outrageous!
Here's me lost in my bag of presents.
I love the waitresses at Gricel. (We call them mozas) I have known most of them for years. They always treat me right. This gal was on champoo duty for my birthday.
At 4:30 am, after 3 bottles of champagne, a cake, canapes, wonderful dances, and the love and friendship of my friends, the evening ended.
I am so lucky.

Every birthday party needs a cake, and mine was no exception. Sandra slaved all day and night to bake this cake for me.....NOT! She knows that I love strawberries and chocolate. What a friend!

Hola Deby
Picked up your blog through Jenney's site! Really enjoy reading your news and views!!Also so pleased to put a name to the man who danced with me at Gricel when I was in BA March 2008. Juan asked me to dance after I had been sitting for quite some time - we had a wonderful tanda - one of the highlights of my trip. Only 10 days that time, but coming for longer this year, may see you around ....

wow ... sounds like a great life ... don't even know how I found this blog, I was searching for something related to the 100 pushups from lifehacker.com
Seems like a good life you have going on for yourself and I know it myself, my parents are from Argentina. I seriously loved the 2 months, that I spent there the previous year. (2007).
chau.
